/What’s VJFS
ビクトリア日本友好協会（VJFS)は、ビクトリアとその近郊に住む日本人移住者、ロングステイの日本人、日本に関心を持つカナダ人との親睦や相互援助を目的として、1995年に発足された非営利団体（NPO法人）です。会員からのサポート、寄付、広告掲載、ボランティアによって支えられています。
新年餅つき会や秋のバザー、8月のお盆、BBQなど季節の行事の他、きもの倶楽部や紙芝居クラブなどのサークル活動を行っています。また、会員には隔月で『さくら通信』が配信されます。
どなたでも会員になれます。会の運営は主に日本語で行われています。ビクトリアの生活をより快適にしたい、充実させたいと考えている皆様の入会をお待ちしています
Victoria Japanese Friendship Society is a non-profit organization which was founded in 1995 upon its principle mandate to support Japanese immigrants and long-term visitors in greater Victoria, as well as to exchange friendships with Canadians who are interested in Japan.
We celebrate seasonal events such as Mochi-tsuki/rice cake pounding on New Year’s Day, Autumn bazaar, Obon festival/paying respectful visit to graves and BBQ in August. We are engaged in club activities such as a kimono club and a kamishibai (picture-story show) club. A bi-monthly Sakura newsletter is sent out to members.

盛岡市で生まれ育ち国際連盟事 務次長を務めた新渡戸稲造博士が， カナダのバンフで行われた太平洋 問題調査会議に出席後ビクトリア 市にある「ロイヤル・ジュビリー病 院」で亡くなりました。新渡戸博士 の生誕の地と終焉の地という縁が きっかけで，1985 年５月 23 日（カ ナダ時間）に姉妹都市を提携しまし た。（盛岡国際交流協会websiteより)
Dr. Inazo Nitobe who was born in Morioka and became the Secretary General of the League of Nations passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria after attending the Institute of Pacific Relations held in Banff, Canada. With Morioka being the place of birth and Victoria being the place of demise of Dr. Nitobe, sister city affiliation was established on May 23rd, 1985 (Canadian time). – http://www.mira-morioka.com
